JxJ, the SEVENTEEN unit of Jeonghan and Joshua, sold 656,011 copies of its first mini album, Dreamscape, on its first day. According to PLEDIS Entertainment, that is the highest first-day total for any unit album in Hanteo history, Soompi reported. Hanteo is a Korean chart that tracks album sales.

The seven-track EP came out at 6 p.m. Korea time on Monday, October 19, per Korea JoongAng Daily. In the US, that was early Monday morning.

Beyond Korea

The album also reached No. 1 on Line Music's realtime album chart in Japan, QQ Music's digital bestseller albums chart in China and iTunes Top Albums charts in at least six regions. The title track, "12 o'clock," hit No. 1 on iTunes Top Songs charts in countries including Singapore, Argentina and the Philippines, according to Soompi.

The music

"12 o'clock" is a dance-rock track built on 1970s and '80s disco and funk, and its story has the two chasing a dream between noon and midnight, The Korea Times reported. The EP opens with the house song "Like You" and closes on the band track "No Looking Back," Variety wrote.

Each member has a solo. Joshua co-wrote and co-composed "Not Personal," an alternative rock song, and has a lyric credit on the closer. Jeonghan co-wrote the lyrics for his electro-house track "Coloring," per Variety. Joshua told the outlet the two disagreed at first, one wanting a stronger sound and the other something subtler, and "12 o'clock" was where they met.

Why the unit, and why now

The EP is Jeonghan's first project since he finished his alternative military service as a social service worker in June, per Korea JoongAng Daily. SEVENTEEN is thin on members right now. Six are serving, and Seungkwan and Dino enlist together on October 26, which leaves five active members, Variety reported. JxJ is the group's seventh unit, and all 13 members renewed with PLEDIS, now part of HYBE, this summer.

Joshua grew up in Los Angeles and moved to Korea as a trainee, Variety noted.

On the road

The duo starts a six-city concert run in Korea and abroad on October 30, per Korea JoongAng Daily. It is the pair's first tour as a duo, and its Hong Kong stop is February 20 and 21, 2027, at AsiaWorld-Arena, The Standard reported. No US dates have been reported.
