TREASURE Open Their Second Act With "SHOCK"
YG's nine-member group released the electronic hip-hop single on November 2, the first step of what Yang Hyun-suk calls a second act that runs into 2027.
TREASURE released their digital single "SHOCK" on November 2 at 6 p.m. Korea time, Soompi reported. In the US, that was early Monday morning.
The song is "an electronic hip hop track with explosive energy and a catchy and powerful rhythm," per the same report. Bandwagon heard "sleek synth textures and heavy bass," paired with sharp group choreography in the video.
Who made it
YG Entertainment's in-house producers BIGTONE and P.K worked on the single alongside international songwriters and producers who had contributed to the group's June release, NEW WAV, Bandwagon wrote. Neither outlet named the overseas writers. That mix, a label's own producers plus writers from outside Korea, is now the default for groups aiming past the home market, a shift First Press covered in [K-pop's English Test](/k-pops-english-test).
The second act
The plan came from YG founder Yang Hyun-suk in mid-October. "Taking 'NEW WAV', the 'beginning of Act 2', as a turning point, TREASURE is making its most significant change in musical direction," he said, per Sports Kyunghyang. He described a "full-fledged second act that will continue into 2027."
NEW WAV, the group's fourth mini album, came out in June, Bandwagon noted. "SHOCK" is the first new music since.
The rest of YG's slate
The same announcement set BABYMONSTER's digital single "DESERVE" for October 23, about four months after "SUGAR HONEY ICE TEA," with a new BABYMONSTER album expected early next year, Sports Kyunghyang reported. YG is also preparing two debuts, a five-member boy group and a four-member girl group, and Yang said he would return with another YG ANNOUNCEMENT video at the end of the year.
No tour dates or chart results for "SHOCK" had been reported as of November 4. For how release plans like this one are built across markets, see [The Rollout Is the Album Now](/the-rollout-is-the-album-now).
